Privacy

What this site collects, why, where it goes, how long it is kept, and how to ask for it to be corrected or deleted.

The Best Practice Guide is delivered by Edith Cowan University and funded by Healthway. We are committed to protecting the privacy and confidentiality of information we collect from visitors to this website. We handle personal information in a way that protects the privacy of individuals and complies with our obligations under Australian privacy law. More information about these obligations is available from the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at www.oaic.gov.au.

What we collect

You do not need to provide personal information to read or download resources. There is no account, no sign-up and no email wall.
Your name, email address, role, jurisdiction, enquiry topic and message, if you use the contact form. Your service or organisation is optional.
How the site is used, recorded by this site’s own analytics: pages viewed, files downloaded, how far pages are read, links clicked, device and browser type, and the website or search engine that referred you. We also record an approximate location (state, town and remoteness area) and the owner of the network you are using (for example a university or internet provider), both worked out from your IP address. Your IP address itself is not stored.
Standard web server records: the pages requested, the date and time, browser type and IP address, kept by our hosting provider for security and troubleshooting.
We do not store your IP address or browser details alongside a form submission.
No advertising, no profiling for marketing, and nothing sold or shared.

Why we collect it

We use your contact details only to answer your enquiry and, where you have asked for something, to send it to you. Usage figures show how widely the Guide is used and where, which supports reporting to Healthway and decisions about what to update. Server records exist to keep the site available and secure.

Where it is stored and for how long

The site is hosted on managed WordPress hosting in Australia. Enquiries are not stored on this website. The form sends your message straight to the project team at Edith Cowan University as an email. Delivery of that email is handled by Brevo, an email delivery service, which processes the message in transit. Brevo may process the email outside Australia, including in the European Union.

Once it arrives, your enquiry sits in the project team’s mailbox at Edith Cowan University and is kept for as long as it is needed to deal with your request.

Analytics data is stored in this website’s own database, hosted in Australia, and is not sent to any other company. Detailed records are kept for about two years, and summary totals for the life of the project. Server records are retained by the hosting provider for a short period and then overwritten.

Who can see it

Your enquiry is seen by the project team at Edith Cowan University, and by the technical team who maintain this site when they are helping with a problem. It is not shared with anyone else.

Analytics reports are seen by the project team at Edith Cowan University and the site’s technical team. Reports shared with funders contain totals only.

Analytics and cookies

This site uses its own analytics, which runs on this website’s server. It does not use Google Analytics or any other third-party analytics service. There are no advertising trackers, no social media pixels and no embedded third-party content. Fonts, images and scripts are served from this site, so visiting a page does not send a request to another company.

The site also fetches search statistics from Google Search Console, such as which searches showed the Guide in Google’s results. No information about visitors is sent to Google.

When you first visit, a banner asks whether you accept analytics cookies.

If you accept, two cookies are set. The first, called _zna_vid, recognises a returning browser for up to 13 months. The second, called _zna_sid, groups a single visit and expires after 30 minutes of inactivity. Both contain a random code, not your name or contact details.
If you decline or don’t choose, no analytics cookies are set. Your visit is still counted, using a code that changes every day and cannot be used to recognise you on another day.
Either way, a cookie called zna_consent remembers your choice for 6 months.

You can change your choice at any time using Cookie settings, which is also in the footer of every page.

The contact form sets a short-lived cookie for spam protection when you submit it.

Your choices

You can read, download and print everything on this site without telling us anything about yourself.
You can accept or decline analytics cookies, and change your choice at any time using the Cookie settings link in the footer of every page.
Your service or organisation is optional on the contact form.
You can ask us to correct or delete the details you sent us, subject to ECU’s legal and records-management requirements.
There is no mailing list, so there is nothing to unsubscribe from.

Email BPG-ECEC@ecu.edu.au or use the contact form. If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your personal information, tell us at the same address and we will look into it.
